SEASONAL CASHIER
JOB DURATION: March - Early July, 25-40 hours/week per discussion with applicant
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Seasonal Cashier Position reports to the Retail Floor Manager and works at the direction of the Checkout Co-Managers. Assist with running and maintaining the checkout counter by totaling carts (requires ability to identify varying pot sizes), taking payments, tidying the area and nearby retail spaces, answering phone calls as available, answering shoppers' questions, and occasionally helping customers to their vehicle with carts and/or heavy pottery or load bagged soil, mulch, etc. (for heavy items, cashiers request help from other greenhouse staff as needed.)
JOB REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to stand on concrete for up to 8 hours, and the capacity to stay organized, efficient and calm under pressure (lines can get quite long). Excellent customer service and communication skills are a necessity. Basic math proficiency and the ability to be quick as well as accurate when totalling carts is a must. Applicants should have a high comfort level with computers and basic technology, and must be able to pick up new checkout systems quickly. A general knowledge of common garden plants and a familiarity with Painters availability is essential. It's important for checkout staff to maintain respectful and clear communication with fellow employees and customers. We work hard to maintain Painters as a positive, supportive work environment and shopping destination.
