RETAIL FLOOR ASSISTANT
JOB DURATION: Mid Feb-Early July
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Retail Floor Assistant position reports to the Retail Floor Manager. The role is physically demanding and requires the employee to maintain a high energy level throughout the work day. Members of the Retail Team load, unload and move plants from one location to another throughout the day to ensure tables and aisles are fully stocked for customers. Members give advice and guidance to customers related to plant choices and care. This position will occasionally involve weeding and limited watering of plants and gardens, at the direction and training of the Retail Floor Manager. Other duties may be assigned as they arise throughout the season.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Familiarity with common garden plants is ideal. Customer service experience is very helpful. The position requires the ability to lift up to 40lbs without assistance, to bend, lift and twist while loading and unloading plants for up to 8 hours, and to perform these duties in temperatures up to 100 degrees. Physical endurance and energy are important for this work. Applicants must be able to push, pull, bend, lift, stretch, and reach in order to care for plants and arrange them within the nursery, and must be capable of maintaining efficiency throughout varied conditions and tasks. The position also does require attention to detail and the ability to take thorough notes when given instructions so that you can work independently on tasks. Staff at Painters should work well as team players as it can get hectic during our busy season. Respectful and clear communication with fellow staff and customers is essential in maintaining Painters as a positive, supportive work environment and shopping destination.
