Time for Fall Veggies

Fall is right around the corner!

It's getting to be the time to start thinking about your fall vegetable garden! Many plants (especially root veggies) require 10-12 weeks to develop before the first frost, (the average for zone 7A is November 15th), so that means planting should start ASAP!

This fall at Painters we will offer Chinese cabbage, Red Russian and Dino kale, spinach, collards, bok choy, and a selection of lettuces. These are crops that will be mature by or last past the first frost to give you ample growing and harvest time.

Many other fall veggies such as carrots, radishes, beets, broccoli, and brussels sprouts can be started from seed in the next few weeks. It is important to consult the seed packet for the days to maturity when planning you planting schedule. We also recommend consulting a planting calendar (like that one offered by the NC State University Extension).
