Native Sweet Gum, Liquidambar styraciflua, 2G/3G - was $20, now $12

  • Large tree reaching 60 ft with a 40 ft spread. This would make an excellent shade tree in a lawn or park.

  • Prefers full sun and can tolerate moist soils.

  • Star shaped leaves give a beautiful fall display - colors ranging from maroon to vibrant red and pink to orange and yellow - all on the same tree!

  • When the tree blooms in spring (small inconspicuous flowers) it provides a nectar source for the ruby-throated hummingbird. Sweet Gum is also a host plant for more than 30 species of butterflies and moths, including two of our largest and most stunning moths, the luna and promethea.

  • The fruiting clusters are called "gum balls" and remain on the tree during winter, which can add winter appeal, along with its corky bark and winged stems. The gum balls provide food for 25 species of birds, chipmunks and squirrels.

Lilac Chaste Tree Vitex agnus-castus, 2G - was $16, now $10

  • Small tree/large shrub reaching 20 ft in height and 15 ft in width.

  • It has beautiful spikes of blue/purple blooms in late spring to early fall.

  • Flowers attract butterflies and bees.

  • Blooms can be cut back when spent to promote more blooms. The leaves have a lovely fragrance, which makes this plant deer resistant.

  • It likes full sun and well-drained soil. The dried leaves and seed heads are medicinal!

'Baggesen's Gold' Golden Boxleaf Honeysuckle, Lonicera nitida, 1G - was $12, now $8

  • Dense evergreen shrub/ground cover reaching a height and width of 3-5 ft.

  • Prefers full sun to dappled shade.

  • Golden-chartreuse foliage adorn the arching branches. Can be used as a perennial border, or specimen shrub and makes an attractive addition to the winter garden.

  • Responds well to pruning and can be shaped/sheared - a great and colorful substitute for boxwoods!
