Note: We have extended our hours on weekdays due to popular demand, but please understand that we have a lot of plants to water in a short time frame, so if you are shopping from 4-5, there may be a sprinkler on.
Painters Greenhouse is just off the beaten path- centrally located about 30 miles from Asheville, Lake Lure and Morganton. Please note that our road is sometimes listed as State Rd. 1104 on GPS systems (the road signs still say Roy Moore Rd).
Take 1-40 (west from Morganton, or east from Black Mountain or Asheville) to Exit 73. If coming from the west, turn right off the exit, if from the east, turn left (you should pass the McDonalds, driving away from town). Then choose one of the following two options:
Go 2.5 miles on Bat Cave Rd., and turn right onto Pine Cove Rd. (at the Painters Greenhouse sign). Continue another 2.5 miles, and turn onto Roy Moore Rd./State Rd. 1104 (at the next Painters Greenhouse sign). The greenhouse main driveway and customer parking are immediately on the left.
* Go 3.8 miles on Bat Cove Rd., and make a slight right onto Roy Moore Rd./State Rd. 1104. Continue on Roy Moore (straight through the intersection) for approximately 1 mile. Pass the first parking lot (for deliveries and employees only), and continue to the main entrance at the far end of the parking lot.
NOTE: The road sign for this entrance to Roy Moore Rd. is currently missing. It may be easier to take Pine Cove (the first option).
From Lake Lure: Take NC 9N. Turn right onto Old Fort Rd. & follow 4.7 miles, past the Gateway Mountain entrance (do not enter gated community). The road becomes Bat Cave Rd. after the Gateway entrance. Continue 3.9 miles and make a sharp left onto Roy Moore Rd. (next left after abandoned gas station - road sign is currently missing). Continue on Roy Moore (straight through the intersection) for approximately 1 mile. Pass the first parking lot (for deliveries and employees only), and continue to the main entrance at the end of the parking lot.
* Clear out your car and lay down cardboard or plastic to protect your interior. If using a truck bed, bring a tarp and rope for securing plants.
(We encourage you to reuse materials from your home, but we typically have some used cardboard or reusable plastic sheeting.)
* Wear smart footwear and layer clothing. Some plants are outside, and you may encounter damp/slippery floors or dripping water inside.
* Bring cash, Visa, Discover or Mastercards – we don't take checks.
*Bring family or friends and make an outing of it – the drive is pretty and we have several picnic areas near the gardens & waterfall!
