What's New

We continue to improve our plant selection and greenhouse grounds each season!

Events: We've added several educational seminars and specialty classes to our Calendar of Events for this season for those of you interested in everything from vegetable gardening to making herbal soaps. We even have a special night for all of you women needing some R&R! Seminars are free & specialty classes include a fee.

Retail Products: A big change this year is the addition of retail items to our business. We now sell a professional soil mix (the exact mix that we choose to grow our plants at the greenhouse), Daniel's professional grade fertilizer, Compost Tea Bags, Worm Castings, MagniMoist Planter Inserts, a few gardening tools and pottery! For all of you who fell in love with our beautiful pottery planters, we will now have a huge variety of colors, shapes and size available for purchase uplanted as well as planted. We also now have a variety of garden art and sculpture for sale.

Painters' Plant Catalogue: We have put a lot of time into creating a full-color, highly detailed catalogue of all of our plants that we sell (or at least 98% of them!). We have two stations for customers to peruse our availability and read about the specific characteristics and growing requirements for plants of interest. We have also added an array of detailed informational signs to further educate and aid you in your shopping experience. We will post links to the informational signs online (soon!), but the catalogue is too large for us to put on our website, so you may want to bring a notebook or some scratch paper to take notes!

The Grounds: We've continued to improve the greenhouse grounds with the goal of making our business a relaxing and beautiful place to visit. The outdoor checkout was added last year with great success - customers and employees alike have greatly appreciated the respite from the heat of the greenhouse! This season we are working on additions to our Cold Frame greenhouse, including a new pergola for our hanging baskets. We also dug an artisian well - so Painters' plants are now watered with true artisian water & customers can enjoy it as well!

Our grower Jessy designed several landscaped areas to showcase our groundcovers, perennials, natives, shrubs & trees. In a few years, customers will be able to see how many of our perennials look as mature members of the landscape. We plan on continuing to beautify our outdoor water feature as well - both our indoor and outdoor water gardens provide a relaxing and fun atmosphere with soothing sounds, diverse aquatics & tadpoles to keep the kids entertained. We hope customers will enjoy relaxing at the picnic tables & rocks next to the waterfall!

THE PLANTS

>>NEW PLANTS FOR 2013!
The above list highlights completely new additions to our availability for the year, but we have also included a lot of the new varieties or colors that we think are the most exciting (we have over 150 new plant varieties this year!). All new plants are included in the complete availability list.

Indoor Plants & Tropicals: This year we continue to expand our indoor plant selection, with more varieties of low-light plants and some exciting new vines & begonias.  While our focus remains on outdoor ornamentals and edibles, we've expanded our selection of houseplants for those of you looking to beautify and oxygenate your indoor environment.

Aquatics: We offer a wide selection of floating and marginal/wetland aquatic plants. Water gardens can be easily created using all shapes and sizes of containers and ponds, providing beauty and relaxation as well as entertainment for kids.  If you love our aquatics but don’t want to build a water garden, take home one of our gorgeous aquatic bowl gardens or buy the ingredients to make your own!

Succulents: We have greatly expanded our succulent selection this year, with several showy succulent combo pots as well as a wide variety of succulents available individually in 5" pots. We have some very colorful additions this season - succulents are a great way to go if you don't have the time to water regularly!

Shrubs & Trees: We expanded our selection of shrubs and trees in 2012 with a variety of decorative and edible items. We continue to experiment with new varieties this year.

Specialty Combinations & Pottery Planters: We have a lot of fun creating combinations and specialty container gardens. This year, we will have a variety of our beautiful planted pottery combos set up with our new retail pottery selection. We now provide all the means necessary for you to make your own personalized (or copycat) combination at home if you would prefer to create you own or save some money!

Edible Container Gardens: We will continue to provide potted vegetable and herb combo gardens, including our much-enjoyed “Scarborough Fair” herbal combinations.  If you don’t have the time or space to dedicate to extensive gardening but would like to have fresh herbs or salad fixings, look into our container gardens.  All of our edible combinations are planted in containers large enough to sustain them throughout their growing seasons, and we make sure to use ‘patio’ varieties of tomatoes and other vegetables.
